A Surrey golf club has raised thousands of pounds for Esher-based Princess Alice Hospice.
St George’s Hill Golf Club in Weybridge handed over a cheque at the end of March, having raised more than £32,000 at its annual Nelson Trophy Pro-Am tournament back in September.
It takes the club’s funds raised for the hospice to more than £428,000.
Hospice fundraiser Tim Iredale said: “On behalf of everyone at the Hospice I’d like to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part in the Nelson Trophy; the money raised over the years is quite astonishing.”
Tournament co-organiser Christopher Pinsen said: “St George's Hill Golf Club maintains very close links to Princess Alice Hospice and we are privileged to be able to support this local charity. We would especially like to pay tribute to Peter Stevens, a long standing member of the Club, who sadly passed away last year. Peter’s father, Edwin Stevens CBE, inaugurated the Hospice; Peter and his family have ardently supported the charity and the Nelson Trophy for many years.”
St George's Hill Golf Club is now busy organising next year’s tournament, scheduled for September 23.
