Police dogs and drones have been deployed in the search for missing university student Victor Ivanelo, who was last seen in Esher in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 21-year-old had last been seen visiting a friend in Esher, and had left the property at about 2am on Sunday morning.

Officers are now "extremely concerned" for his welfare after his bag, mobile phone, keys and headphones were found at the side of a bridleway in Woodstock Lane South in Chessington by a horse rider at 11.40am on Sunday.

Police helicopters, specialist search officers, dogs and drones are being used as the search enters its fifth day.

30 volunteers from Surrey Search and Rescue are also helping to find Mr Ivanelo.

Surrey Police officers are urging residents in Claygate, Esher and Chessington to check their garages, sheds or outbuildings incase the student has taken refuge in one.

Surrey Comet:

The University of Surrey student lives in student housing in Guildford but his permanent address is in south west London.

He has not been seen at either address since he went missing.

He was last seen wearing a grey formal jacket, blue jeans and smart shoes, and was carrying a black over-the-shoulder bag which may have had a laptop inside where he was last seen.

He was not wearing his glasses when he left his friend's house in Esher.

Detective chief inspector Paul Rymarz said: “We are keeping an open mind at this stage but it is completely out of character for Viktor not to have made contact with anyone for this amount of time and we are extremely concerned for his welfare.

“We have no reason to believe that Victor poses any risk to the public – all I am asking residents in the areas listed above to do is check any outbuildings or sheds in case he has taken refuge there.

“The discovery of some of his personal belongings is of particular concern, given that they were found some distance from where he was last seen and we are focusing our searches on this area.

“We are also concerned that there has not been a single sighting of him or that he has not made any contact with family or friends since he went missing.

“Anyone with any information as to his whereabouts is asked to come forward as a matter of urgency.

“We are carrying out a number of enquiries but any other information or sightings, no matter how insignificant they might seem, would help us enormously.”

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference number 45170020251.
