A huge fibreglass cow that was stolen after being wrenched from its plinth has been found during a police raid.

The camouflaged beast had been pinched by thieves from its display in Box Hill, between August 18 and 19.

The animal was part of the Surrey Hills Cow Parade - billed as the world's largest public art event - which saw designers paint sculptures that were placed around Surrey, including one in Esher.

Mole Valley police officers recovered the cow during a search at a property in Newdigate this morning.

Charlie Rowbotham, the artist who painted it, has been made away of the discovery.

The cow, named Cycling Moo Kay, is being returned to the organisers of Cow Parade Surrey.

The other cows in last year's parade were auctioned off at Hampton Court Palace and Sandown Park racecourse in Esher, with the final auction on November 17 raising over £130,000 for 52 different charities.

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of theft and is in police custody.
