A dead body was found on the tracks between Epsom and Ashtead train stations.

British Transport Police (BTP) were alerted to the death after train staff reported finding a body near Epsom train station before 11.30am.

BTP officers attended, but paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) pronounced the person dead at the scene.

A BTP spokesperson added: “We are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Earlier a South West Trains spokesman said delays had been caused by a person on the track.

South West Trains advised that all lines between Epsom and Raynes Park have now reopened, but delays of up to 20 minutes are expected until about 2.30pm.
