Councillors will vote on whether to allow the demolition of the derelict Oakhill Health Centre and the construction of two new blocks of flats.

The 41 flats would be contained in buildings similar to the old Newlands Nurses Home, next door.

At an exhibition held in the old health centre 18 months ago owner Daniel de Marsillac, of Glane Properties, said: "We want something that is long-lasting. Like Newlands it will stand the test of time."

The dilapidated nurses home, left to rot by the NHS years ago, is also to be renovated.

The plans have been altered since their initial airing. Instead of three blocks plus the renovated Newlands block, two new blocks will be built and a new wing created for Newlands.

A vote will be held next Wednesday, October 12, from 7.30pm in Guildhall.
