A man has been found guilty of murdering his friend after they smoked cannabis together and traded vulgar insults about each others' mothers.

Azeem Issa, 22, was convicted yesterday at the Old Bailey of stabbing pal Sahil Roy to death in April.

The pair had met with acquaintances outside Mr Roy's flat, in the Ivybridge estate near Twickenham stadium, to smoke cannabis, the court was told.

But Issa, of Haweswater House, Isleworth, was agitated and desperate to confront his friend.

Guilty: Azeem Issa

The pair had argued in the days before the killing about a Fifa video game, and rowed again after meeting up when Mr Roy compared his cannabis to the way Issa's mother smelled.

Issa replied in kind, he told jurors, before the pair fought physically and he stabbed Mr Roy with his own knife.

A police spokesman said: "The two finally met later that day and there was an altercation over the drugs. Sahil told Issa to “just relax”.

"Issa then pushed Sahil before pulling out a concealed knife. He stabbed the victim in his shoulder and neck and then fled the scene.

"Sahil’s parents, brother and sister were called and rushed down from the flat where they found him collapsed and bleeding. He died in his mother’s arms."

Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway, of the homicide and major crime command, said: "This was a brutal attack which saw a young man, who was due to be married, lose his life and his family have been left heartbroken.

"Our thoughts are with Sahil’s family and friends and we hope that today’s conviction will give them some peace."

Mr Roy was engaged to his girlfriend of eight years.

Issa will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday, September 29.
