A man and a teenage boy have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in class A drug dealing after a crash in Chessington.

Surrey Police said the pair, a 16-year-old from Mitcham and a 38-year-old from Worcester Park, were arrested after two of its plain clothes officers spotted a Fiat 500 car near the border between Chessington and Epsom yesterday.

The driver of the car pulled away as the officers got out to approach it at about 4pm. The officers returned to their unmarked car to begin a search.

But a Surrey Police spokeswoman insisted: “At no stage were the officers involved in a pursuit.”

She added: “After a short time they came across a road traffic crash in Stokesby Road, Chessington, involving a Fiat 500 and a flat-bed lorry. There was extensive damage to the Fiat.”

The boy and the man were both arrested on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle, being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and possessing an offensive weapon.

They are currently in custody in Surrey while inquiries continue.
