Gosh, it only seems like yesterday that the Olympics were on our doorstep here in London and we were all in a sporting frenzy.

If you loved sport it was a dream come true, and even if you didn’t, you grew to love it.

That’s not to say because the Olympics are in Rio this time round; we haven’t been gripped by some top quality unforgettable moments.

Team GB have been phenomenal and it’s been a period of two weeks that have lifted our spirits and hopes.

Something I think we all needed with the series of events and news we’ve had for a while now.

I’ve always loved watching the Olympics.

I can still remember as a little girl being glued to the television watching in awe at the likes of athletes such as Carl Lewis, Sebastian Coe, Florence Griffiths-Joyner, Michael Johnson and other amazing people wishing I could be just as brilliant as they were.

It’s true to say there’s a lot we can learn from these individuals who are dedicated, focused and determined.

I mean, if I’d had half of their commitment, I’m sure I’d be in a different place right now.

We can always wonder about the ‘what ifs’, but at the end of the day we are who we are.

Anyway there has been a positive impact in our household.

Anyone who knows us well can tell you my other half, Michael, is not one who likes to exert himself.

But over the last few weeks, he’s been hitting the gym like a man possessed.

He’ll pop down to David Lloyd in the evenings after we’ve put the little ones to bed, and run 7k.

He’s on fire like Usain Bolt! Even I’ve been on my bike more putting in the miles thinking I’m sitting on the wheel of Bradley Wiggins or Laura Trott.

There’s no gold medals being awarded to us, but at least we are trying!

And who knows, you may just see us in Tokyo in 2020……watching from the side lines!
