A 16-year-old boy is among two more people to have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fisherman’s body was pulled from the Thames.

The body of the man in his 40s was pulled from the river near Waterside Drive on Thursday, July 28, after concerns were raised for the safety of a man who, it was believed, had been seen fishing, according to Surrey Police.

Surrey Police launched a murder investigation on Friday after a post-mortem examination of the man’s body found he died from trauma to the head.

The arrests of the 16-year-old and a 21-year-old man on suspicion of murder come after a 25-year old man from Long Ditton was arrested on suspicion of the same offence on Saturday.

He has been released on bail until September 29.

A 36-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were also arrested today on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, bringing the total number of arrests to five.

Detective Superintendent Adam Hibbert said: "This was an appalling incident where the victim sustained significant, and ultimately fatal, head injuries.

“A detailed and extensive investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice.

“The area is popular with fishermen and dog walkers and I would urge anyone who was in the area on Thursday and may have seen or heard anything out of the ordinary to contact Surrey Police as a matter of urgency.

"Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this extremely difficult time and on their behalf we are continuing to ask that their privacy is respected."
