Detectives investigating the “brutal” murder of a West Molesey mother have appealed for a dog walker to come forward.

Robyn Mercer, a 50-year-old antiques dealer, was found dead in her front garden in Abbey Walk, Walton Road, on Monday, March 14 at about 8am.

A post-mortem examination found she had died from multiple blows to the head.

Surrey Police have released CCTV images of a man in light-coloured tracksuit trousers and a hooded top walking two dogs at about 8.45pm the night before Ms Mercer’s body was found.

The man is seen tying the two dogs up outside a shop next to the Lord Hotham pub before entering the shop for a couple of minutes.

Earlier that day, he was also seen near the green on Walton Road, close to where Ms Mercer’s body was discovered. He is not being treated as a suspect.

Detective Inspector Paddy Mayers, of the Surrey and Sussex major crime team, said: “I would appeal to everyone in the neighbourhood to look and think closely whether they know who might own or walk these quite distinctive dogs.

“Our work to try to identify and bring to justice those who committed this horrendous crime carries on. Please don't think that because it is now a number of months since the brutal attack took place that we don't need to hear from you.”

Ms Mercer was a partner at the prestigious family-owned independent antiques dealer, JH Bourdon-Smith, in Masons Yard, London.

She had also organised a charity auction selling more than 70 antiques, collectables and modern luxury items which raised £10,000 for the restoration of the St Mary the Virgin church's roof in East Molesey.

Five people are currently on bail having been arrested in connection with her murder.

A 53-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of murder the day Ms Mercer’s body was found, is due to answer bail until September 15.

Two woman, aged 44 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and are on bail until September 14.

Two others are also on bail until September 14.

Detectives have been carrying out house to house enquiries, forensic and search units have been making detailed investigations and officers are continuing to question people, a police spokesman said.

Crimestoppers are currently offering a reward of £10,000 to anyone who comes forward with information, but the offer will end on Wednesday, July 27.

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101 quoting Operation Zebu.
