Nick Ephgrave was officially announced as the new permanent Chief Constable of Surrey Police at a hearing at County Hall in Kingston this week.

Mr Ephgrave had taken up the role temporarily after outgoing Chief Constable Lynne Owens moved on to take over as head of the National Crime Agency in December 2015.

Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner David Munro had announced Mr Ephgrave as his preferred candidate for the role after being elected Commissioner in May.

After his suitability for the role was scrutinised, the Police and Crime Panel unanimously approved Mr Ephgrave’s appointment during a confirmation hearing on Tuesday, July 5.

His responsibilities include managing performance and implementing policing strategies across Surrey.

He said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to serve as Surrey’s Chief Constable – it is a tremendous privilege and honour.

“I look forward to working with the Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver his Police and Crime Plan, continuing the work that I’ve been doing over the last six months, and appointing a substantive Chief Officer team to lead Surrey Police.”
