A young girl was shocked to discover slugs were “wriggling around” in the punnet of strawberries she bought from a supermarket on Sutton High Street.

Amanda Ravindran, 19, of Tudor Avenue, Worcester Park, only spotted the tiny creatures in the Morrisons box of berries after she started eating them.

The punnet of strawberries was immediately returned to the store and the Ravindran's were offered a refund

When the Portsmouth University student noticed the slippery critters on Tuesday she showed her dad, Balasingham Ravindran, who immediately returned the product.

Miss Ravindran said: “I feel so sick just thinking about them wriggling around in there.

“I had already eaten two before I saw them in there, so all I can say is that I really, really hope I didn’t swallow one of them.

“I didn’t notice them at first, because I was on the computer while I was eating them.

“They are really small and I didn’t really know what they were at first, but I showed my dad and he confirmed they were slugs."

A Morrisons spokeswoman said: "We check and package our fresh produce very carefully but on this occasion the slugs were missed.

"The grower is introducing extra checks and we are working with them to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

"We have apologised to Mr Ravindran and offered him a gesture of goodwill."

Mr Ravindran said the store managers offered him a refund and even a £10 voucher for the slimy strawberries, but he refused.
