The licensing review of Kingston's biggest nightclub was prompted by bosses' failed efforts to tackle crimes including sexual assault, police have said.

Pryzm could face renewed restrictions on its opening hours and capacity as part of the review, according to Kingston Council documents.

Kingston police told councillors they had held three meetings with managers this year after "a series of serious offences" were reported during Christmas and New Year 2015.

Pryzm bosses promised to review internal procedures and put in place new rules to combat crime.

PC James Hartland said in the review request filed this month: "It would appear that the action taken by the venue is not working and that the levels of crime, specifically violence, sexual assault and theft, are still of concern to police.

"The licensing objectives of the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety are being undermined even with measures being put in place by the management."

But last week, when this website first reported the review announcement, Pryzm's owner, the Deltic Group, hit back and said its club was "a professional and well-run venue".

They added: "We are naturally disappointed with the decision to review our licence.

"We will continue to work closely with the authorities throughout the process to ensure that we reach an amicable outcome.”
