Plans to redevelop a Worcester Park church into a new “community hub” have been submitted to Kingston Council.

Worcester Park Baptist Church put forward the scheme, which involves the demolition of the porch entrance and the construction of two single-storey extensions.

The church, which celebrated its 125th anniversary last year, currently runs Korean church services, a girls’ and boys’ brigade, a carers and toddlers, and lunch club for the elderly.

The application states: “The church wishes to provide a better service by engaging with the community.

“The current premises have served the church well but were identified as too defensive and closed, with activity within the building virtually impossible to see. Few passers-by even recognise the site as a church.

“The vision is for the premises to be a beacon of light in the community.”

The planning application seeks full permission for a new central hub, prayer chapel, general office, new kitchen and toilets, storage and remodelling of the main hall.

Resident have until Friday, June 10 to comment on the proposals.
