A teenager narrowly avoided being stabbed and mugged during an attack on his way to work in Walton.

The 18-year-old victim was walking to work along Rydens Avenue when he was grabbed and threatened by a man on Monday, February 1 at about 6pm.

The man “lunged” at the teen with a blade and tried to grab his headphones, Surrey Police said.

The teenager fell down and hit his back on a metal object.

Police said he tried to run away to Sidney Road, but a second man ran at him from the other side of the road and tried to attack him, before he managed to escape towards a nearby house.

The two men then ran away from the area, officers added.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “The first suspect is described as a being of dual heritage, aged around 18 to 19 years-old, of a slim build with very short black hair. He had a big forehead and a long nose.”

DC Lisa Larkin said: "This was a terrifying experience for a young man who was just going about his everyday business.

“Surrey Police will not tolerate violence or threats of violence in its communities and I would urge anyone who may have seen this incident to call officers as soon as possible. We need to locate and bring those responsible to justice.”

Anyone who witnessed the attack or anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference 45160009052, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
