The UK’s second ever ‘cereal café’ based in Kingston’s town centre has had to close its doors less than a year after opening.
A sign on the door reads the cafe will not have its lease renewed
The Cereal Bar, in Fife Road, opened at the end of February last year selling only cereal and crisp sandwiches.
The bar, which opened shortly after Shoreditch’s controversial Cereal Killer café, was aimed at the borough’s student population.
Customers paid about £2.70 for a small bowl of cereal with large bowls costing up to £6.
A single Pop Tart set you back £1.50.
FROM FEBRUARY: Cereal and crisp sandwich cafe aimed at students opens in Kingston
At the time of opening owner Ramon Mullan defended his shop, which some claimed was the height of gentrification.
He said: “I really like the Cereal Killer Cafe and have been there five or six times.
“But my prices are cheaper and we do milkshakes and crisps.
“I’m really into the marketing side of things and I think that Kingston is a great place to open this sort of business.”
A sign on the door read that the shops lease had come to an end.
