A group of Elmbridge schools have banded together to write and sing a song about making the world a better place, with the aim of topping the Christmas charts to raise money for a children’s charity.

A Better World, which also features a rap, and focuses on peace, friendship and courage, hopes to raise funds for Shooting Star Chase which helps children with life-limiting conditions and their families in London and Surrey.

Former Footballers’ Wives and current Hollyoaks actress Zoe Lucker also joined the schools for their launch yesterday at Rydens Enterprise School in Walton.

A Better World was written by primary and secondary students from Rydens Enterprise School, Walton Leigh School, Ashley Church of England Primary School, St Charles Borromeo Catholic Primary School, Bell Farm Primary School, all based in Walton, and St James Church of England Primary School, Heathside School, Manby Lodge Infant School and Oatlands Infant School in Weybridge.

Acclaimed music composer and conducter Gavin Greenaway worked with the pupils to compose the song, which was brought together by brainstormed words and phrases students had experienced.

All of the schools involved in making the song are part of the Elmbridge Schools Values Group, a values-led education system adopted by all nine schools involved.

Pat Beechey, Chair of the Elmbridge Schools Values Group, said: "There is often a perception that young people don’t care about the world around them but our students have really demonstrated what strong and positive individuals they are with such passionate lyrics."

A Better World is now available to download from iTunes and costs around 99p, with proceeds going to the Shooting Star Chase.
