A mum from Walton has been drinking her own urine as a form of self medication after refusing “toxic” chemotherapy treatment.

Former carer Sam Ravelle has been using homeopathic medicines, herbal therapies and supplements to cure her stage three breast cancer.

The 41-year-old said she had fasted for a number of days while trying urine therapy, which she did about five times for a three to four day period.

She told the Mirror: “I don’t believe in chemotherapy.

“I think it’s toxic.

“I’ve researched it and it seems like madness.

“If someone is healthy, you don’t wipe out their immune system, so if someone has a problem you shouldn’t wipe out their immune system either.

“You get lots of people who have survived but have no quality of life.”

Despite being offered a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Ms Ravelle is determined to continue her treatment.

She was diagnosed with a tumour in her right breast in August 2012 but said she had felt fine until February 2014 when her inactive cancer became active. She blames this on the stress of getting advice from doctors.

Ms Ravelle, who lives alone and has a son, Kyle, 24, has also spread herbs over herself to “bring out the cancer”.

She said: “The first time it worked well and brought three lumps out of me - it collects into a scab which falls off and then heals over - but the second time it was hell and I was in agony.”

So far her alternative treatments have not proven successful but Ms Ravelle has raised has raised £3,411 of her £7,000 target on her Go Fund Me page to pay for treatment.

The NHS Choices website recommends using chemotherapy medications, which are "designed to have a poisonous effect on cancerous cells" and is used to "try and cure cancer completely".

However, information from Cancer Research UK says that "there is currently no strong evidence from studies in people that herbal remedies can treat, prevent or cure cancer."

They added: "Each type of herbal remedy may have its own side effects. Some are safe to use and don’t have any noticeable side effects. But some plants are poisonous to humans and can have serious and severe side effects."
