A curvy Kingstonian has cemented a place in history by winning a position in a famous New Year calendar.
Kingston College Roundabout beat thousands of other hopeful circular intersections to gain the September spot in the UK Roundabout Appreciation Society (UKRAS) 2016 calendar.
The College Roundabout, at the bottom of Wheatfield Way and Kingston Hall Road, was also shortlisted for the coveted annual Roundabout of the Year award and just narrowly missed out to the Corn Law Rhymer roundabout in Bradgate, Rotherham for the calendar cover position.
Judges were particularly impressed with the 54 paper plane sculpture in the middle of the roundabout which celebrates Kingston’s aviation heritage.
President of UKRAS, Kevin Beresford, said: "This charming traffic island perfectly sums up what is the epitome of the perfect gyratory. Roundabouts really do not come much better than this."
The calendar can be bought at roundaboutsofbritain.com.
