A furious patient has taken to social media to criticise a GP surgery he claims is "dangerous" for those it cares for.

Garry Clayton, 36, set up a Facebook group as a platform for other patients to publically voice their feedback about the Glenlyn Medical Centre, Molesey Park Road, East Molesey. The group, called Glenlyn Medical Centre Feedback Forum, currently has 225 members.

Mr Clayton claims the surgery has failed patients by catering to more people than it can handle, having a shortage of doctors on call and misdiagnosing conditions, claiming this has even resulted in the deaths of some patients.

Mr Clayton says he is also launching a claim after several misdiagnoses of rheumatoid arthritis caused him prolonged suffering.

He said: "I work in the construction industry so as you can imagine it was very painful for me to use my hands.

"It was actually after my fifth or so visit to the surgery that a doctor finally told me I was in the advanced stages of rheumatoid arthritis and I was referred to hospital."

The complaints come in stark contrast to the latest health watchdog report published in July.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated the centre as Good overall, though it did state that some patients said they found it difficult to make an appointment, and did not always see the same GP.

The inspectors, who conducted the inspection in May, praised staff stating they followed best practice, information about safety was recorded correctly and patients said they were treated with compassion dignity and respect.

Mr Clayton said changes in personnel at the surgery had caused problems. He said: "It’s getting dangerous now. People are starting to worry about their health."

The CQC report confirmed the practice had undergone a period of significant change over the last four years with four senior GPs retiring and salaried GPs leaving the practice.

A spokeswoman for The Glenlyn Medical Centre surgery said: “We take all patient complaints seriously and cannot comment on any individual complaint due to patient confidentiality.

"The practice will address any concerns raised with individuals who should in the first instance speak to the office manager.

"All complaints received by the practice are appropriately investigated and responded to."
