The future of Kingstonian Football Club will be debated in full council after a petition to save the team from becoming homeless reached more than 500 signatures last night.

This paper started a campaign to keep the club in the borough after the team were faced with eviction from Kingsmeadow when leaseholders AFC Wimbledon decided to sell to premier league giants Chelsea.

Under Kingston’s petitions scheme, the council will debate any petition with over 500 signatures.

The “Ensure Kingstonian remain the senior team in the borough” petition was set up by proud Kingstonian fan James Cutteridge and is currently on 514 signatures.

The petition closes on October 19 but is not likely to be debated until the December's full council after the cancellation of the November meeting.
