Molesey sea scouts are looking to build a water sports centre on the Thames, writes Josh Budd.

The 1st Molesey Sea Scouts have been without a base since the late 1990s.

After years of negotiation, it has been suggested Hurst Park in East Molesey could be the ideal location.

The new centre, expected to be built to the east side of the Sadlers Ride car park, will hope to introduce young people to water activities.

The group has organised by a fully qualified team of volunteers.

Project leader Liam Quinn said: “This much-needed facility is going to help us expand the range of opportunities for young people in Elmbridge and beyond, including allowing those with disabilities and additional needs have the chance to experience the joy of being afloat.”

The 1st Molesey Sea Scouts is supported by the Royal Navy and has been running for more than 100 years.

The scouts want to work with residents in order to make sure their new base is suitable.
