Hampton Wick train station will be given step-free access should it be made a Crossrail stop, according to Crossrail managing director Michele Dix.

Hampton Wick councillor Tony Arbour, who is campaigning for the high speed rail service to come to stations in both Kingston and Richmond, met Dr Dix earlier this week.

The London Assembly member for Kingston and Richmond said he was given a commitment from her that should Hampton Wick become a Crossrail stop it would be made step-free.

Coun Arbour said: “Crossrail 2 will be of enormous benefit to my constituents and residents of Kingston and Richmond may be sure that I will work tirelessly to see that this new route to London is delivered for them.”

Liberal Democrat Hampton Wick councillor Geraldine Locke said: "If Crossrail2 comes to Hampton Wick, bringing with it the funding for step free access then it is very good news.

"Step free access at the station was one of the major issues raised on the doorstep with me during the recent by-election campaign.

"However, much as I hope that Crossrail2 comes to Hampton Wick, I hope that if it doesn't then step-free access will remain a priority for this station."
