A dishwasher caught fire filling a house with smoke after a woman had left it to run.
Fire crews from Esher, Walton and Painshill were called to deal with the blaze and managed to contain it to the kitchen.
The fire broke out at about 9.15pm yesterday in Melrose Gardens, Hersham.
No one was hurt but the kitchen was damaged after a two-hour battle with the flames.
A spokesman for Esher said dishwasher fires happen quite often.
He said: "We got there pretty quickly. She had a working smoke alarm which was good."
