The police investigation into an alleged rape of a 19-year-old man in Pryzm nightclub has been closed due to lack of information.

Detectives appealed last September for information about the attack, which was said to have taken place in the male toilets of the superclub in April 2014.

But the Metropolitan Police said last Thursday that unless more details came to light, the case would be closed.

A CCTV still of a man detectives wanted to talk to was released along with the appeal.

A man claiming he was the one pictured in the CCTV contacted the Surrey Comet about the image, and this website passed his phone number to police.

A text message to the number went unanswered yesterday.

No charges have been brought against anyone in connection to the alleged attack on the teenager.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said today the closure of the investigation meant the man who called the Comet would "without doubt" have been ruled out of the inquiry.

At the time, a spokeswoman for the club said: "Pryzm Kingston has extremely robust procedures in place to ensure the safety of its customers, including the use of 120 CCTV cameras.

"The club’s toilet attendants were on duty on April 3 and this matter was not brought to their attention, nor was any alleged rape reported to the management team."

The nightclub, formerly Oceana, was rebranded in November 2013 following a £1m refurbishment.

The revamp was carried out in the shadow of the murder of 20-year-old clubber Jamie Sanderson, from Southall, who was stabbed to death in the club on October 25, 2012.

The murder saw Kingston Council revoke club owner Luminar's licence, before repealing the decision and agreeing a series of licensing conditions.

Levan Greenfield and Brandon Francis are both serving life sentences for Mr Sanderson’s murder.

Luminar changed its name to the Deltic Group earlier this year.
