Accidentally cycling through a police block and into armed officers was not what a man expected on his ride.

Police were called to Wolsey Road in East Molesey after two men had been seen acting suspiciously, one having entered a home carrying something which could have been a firearm.

Mercedes Alejandra's husband stumbled upon a police operation while lost in his thoughts.

He had failed to notice a road closure as he made his way through the road at about 4pm on Tuesday, July 21.

Mrs Alejandra said: "He just found it amusing how his thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a bunch of armed police, then a couple of policemen and himself realised that he should've been stopped earlier as the road was closed."

Surrey Police said a number of units, including armed response vehicles, were sent to Wolsey Road as a precaution.

A spokesman said: "As officers arrived at the scene they carried out a stop check on a blue Renault Clio. Police searched the vehicle and spoke to the occupants but no firearms were recovered.

"One of the occupants of the vehicle was issued with a cannabis warning."

Elmbridge Safer Neighbourhood Team officers have been made aware and will carry out high visibility patrols over the coming days to update and reassure residents.
