Commuters at New Malden station in south-west London can expect a drier, less treacherous experience this morning than the Venice-like scene that greeted them last night thanks to flooding caused by a burst water main.
Emergency services were called yesterday evening after a half a kilometre square area including the high street was flooded.
Approximately 150 metres of roadway was affected and water in the dip of the road beneath the bridge at St George’s Square rose to 1.2 metres
Firefighters helped some residents bail water out of their properties and used sandbags to stop water entering other homes.

The flooding affected 10 homes and three businesses.
Passengers heading out of the train station had to wade through several inches of water.
Kingston police said this morning most of the water has gone but High Street is still closed to vehicles.
Trains are running normally.
Stuart White, from Thames Water, said this morning: “We’re sorry to any customers affected by last night's flooding. Our engineers shut off the leak at 1.30am and water supply returned to normal shortly afterwards.
“We used pumps and tankers to clear the water, and have a team in the area now to finish the clean-up, repair the pipe and get the road reopened as soon as possible.”
