Former Chelsea footballer Frank Lampard is among those on the Queen's Birthday Honours List with links to the borough.

Mr Lampard, who trained at the Premier League club's Stoke D'Abernon training ground, near Cobham, until he left the team last season, was made an OBE for services to football.

Also on this year's birthday honours lists was 76-year-old German teacher Ursula Kent, originally from Berlin, now living in Walton.

She was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to adult learning, having worked as a group leader and co-ordinator at the Elmbridge branch of the University of the Third Age, a social and education group for retired people, since she retired 10 years ago.

Ms Kent said: "[I am] totally surprised because I can't remember what I've done that's out of the ordinary that anyone else hasn't done."

Esher resident Janet Wilkinson, who has worked at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, which is based in central London, for 40 years, was made an MBE for her services to the motor industry and charitable services.

She said: "I feel very happy and very humbled and very touched that people put me forward for it.

"I'm sure that we will find a suitable way to celebrate, cake probably."

Chief Constable of Surrey Police Lynne Owens was made an CBE for services to policing and criminal justice, and Dorothy Clark, from Weybridge, chair of Burhill Primary School, was made an MBE, for services to education and to the community in Surrey.

Chief Constable Owens said: "I confess to being completely gobsmacked.

“Of course I am honoured to receive such recognition but it more widely reflects the many absolutely outstanding officers and staff I have been privileged to work alongside during my police service.”
