A house maid was tied to a chair during a "terrifying" attempted robbery at a luxury home in an exlusive part of Kingston.

Two men broke into the house in Warren Road, an affluent private road between Coombe Lane West and Kingston Hill, while the owners were out.

But they disturbed a 56-year-old maid who was alone in the property.

When she went to investigate a suspicious noise she found the men standing in the hallway. One of them told her in Bengali they had got in through a window.

The other suspect then said in Urdu: “Tie her.”

They tied the woman to a chair using a scarf but while they were upstairs she managed to break free and raise the alarm.

The men left empty-handed.

Police are now appealing for information about the attempted robbery, which happened at 8.45pm on Friday, May 8.

The first suspect is described as an Asian male of medium build between 35 and had a round face. He spoke Bengali.

The second suspect was an Asian male with bad skin and of slim build. The victim reported he spoke Urdu.

DC Rachel Foley from Kingston CID, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim who was left extremely shaken and upset.

“It appears these men entered the property in order to steal but were not successful. Fortunately the victim managed to untie herself and raise the alarm.

"If you were in the area at the time and saw two men fitting the description or have any information please contact police."
