Roadworks are set to go on for a year as a pre-1930s water pipe is replaced in Cobham.
The work, starting on Monday, April 27, is part of a £900,000 investment project to secure water supplies in the area. It is expected to be completed in April 2016.
Letters have been sent to residents immediately affected by the works in Stoke Road, as two-way traffic lights will run throughout.
Simon Thomson, Sutton and East Surrey Water project engineer, said: "We are conscious that this essential replacement water main may cause inconvenience to those living on or near the route, or using the road on a regular basis.
"We will endeavour to limit such concerns in every way we can be working extended hours between Monday to Saturday and when conditions allow, employing more than one gang.
"We are also working closely with Surrey County Council Highway team and our project construction partners Clancy Docwra."
A website, waterplc.com/cobham, will show the extent of the works, a list of frequently asked questions and advice on how to address concerns relating to loss of business.
