A project has provided 28 homeless people with a bed for the night since opening in January.

Transform Housing and Support held a thank you event to recognise the people who supported the winter shelter for homeless people.

Closing its doors on Monday, March 30, the Hersham shelter offered a safe place to sleep and a hot meal for people from Elmbridge, Runnymede and Spelthorne during the coldest and wettest months.

Those housed would otherwise have been sleeping rough in a vehicle, tent or on the street.

Paul Mitchell, chief executive of Transform, said: "This project has been a brilliant partnership between Transform, Whiteley Village, the local councils and Rentstarts, and the many donors volunteers, partners and supporters.

"We are very grateful to everyone who has got behind the project and made it a success. Thanks to everyone's generous support, homeless people have had a warm and dry place to stay this winter, with the chance to get off the streets for good."

The project was hosted by Whiteley Village, with caterers there providing evening meals.
