One of the two gas cylinders which exploded on train tracks flew 100m and hit the side of an apartment block.

Surrey Comet:

Charmaine Woodison was woken by "an almighty bang at 5.55am" which shook the whole building, yesterday morning.

The cylinders, and a 25kg propane drum, ruptured on the railway line at Oatlands Avenue, Weybridge, and cast debris towards flats in Brockley Combe.

Mrs Woodison, a resident of the flats, said: "I looked out this morning to find firemen and police in the garden, which they taped off. It was really frightening to think what could have happened if that had come through our window."

Firemen found the canister down the side of the flats and fortunately there was no damage to the property, but a large fir tree had been damaged.

Mrs Woodison was reassured by one of the firefighters from Sunbury and Staines the cylinder had been removed and the area was safe.

Surrey Comet:

People reported hearing a loud bang as the explosion shook houses and could heard be throughout the Weybridge area.

An investigation is being carried out by British Transport Police.
