A Kingston nursery that opened on the site of a former drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre has called on Ofsted inspectors to pop in to give its official stamp of approval as soon as possible.

Monkey Puzzle opened at the former Kaleidoscope centre last year, but the building has undergone a significant transformation to become a colourful and interactive children’s hub.

The nursery has a garden, a sensory room, an ICT room and even a sleep room – and manager Mandy Lupton cannot wait for the first Ofsted visit.

She said: “They come within two years so we haven’t had our first Ofsted yet.

“We do get visits from head office, but I really can’t wait for Ofsted because then it will be official how well we’re doing here.

“We haven’t been open for too long, but through word of mouth we are already getting a really good reputation. It has been going really well.”

Children at Monkey Puzzle nursery learn the national curriculum by taking part in activities and creating displays around the nursery.

So far this year children have enjoyed biscuit making, dragon painting using their hands and feet for Chinese new year and learning about snow.

The nursery has even managed a display on one of its walls based on the well known “heads, shoulders, knees and toes” song.

Ms Lupton said: “They love it. We try to make learning fun and relate it to something in their curriculum. We aim to get the children ready for school by making sure they can read their names through phonetic work.

“We even take all our babies into the ICT room with the smart board – they love watching movies.”
