A large workshop fire last night which people in Chessington and Ewell reported to smell closed part of the A3.
The fire at Elm Farm in Woodstock Lane South, Claygate, caused the section of the A3 between Esher Common and Hook to be closed by police due to the smoke.
Surrey Roads Police tweeted at midnight to let drivers know to use alternative routes.
At 12.54am they said: "#A3 between Esher Common and Hook fully reopen again. @SurreyFRS doing a great job at containing the fire in a work shop in Claygate."
A Surrey Fire and Rescue spokesman said two workshops were well alight with six pumps sent at about 11.30pm.
Crews from Esher and other fire stations went to control the blaze thought to have started in industrial units for storing lawnmowers, with a crew still there at 9pm to damp down.
It is thought no-one was hurt in the fire.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known but fire investigation officers are at the scene.
