A nursery is celebrating being awarded an outstanding rating from Ofsted for a second time.

197 Early Years Nursery in Kingston has achieved the top rating from the education authority for the second time in four years.

The nursery started life in a living room at 197 Richmond Road, hence the name, but has now expanded to be one of the most successful early year nurseries in the borough.

Manager Claire Deadman has been working at 197 for 12 years and working as manager since 2012, when the nursery achieved its first outstanding rating.

Miss Deadman said: "I came here straight from school and worked my way up to room leader then manager.

"When we achieved our first ‘outstanding’ rating it felt absolutely great, and then when we got the second award in 2014 it was unbelievable since we had just expanded and we weren’t expecting it."

Since the first top rating the nursery has almost doubled in size, going from a 48 children capacity to 89.

Miss Deadman said: "We used to have 15 members of staff and now we employ 30. I’ve spoken at conferences and we’ve been featured in Nursery World Magazine because of our success."

One of the reasons the nursery has done so well is because they are keen to get the children experiencing life outside of the classroom.

Miss Deadman said: "We often take them out to the park and the library. This month we are taking the children down to the library to read Christmas stories, which is really nice.

"It breaks up the day for the children but can be a bit stressful making sure we keep them all together."
