An Old Malden primary school has been given £74,785 to spruce up its dining facilities.
Malden Manor Primary School was given the grant by the Department for Education to extend its existing school dining room in Sheephouse Way.
Heateacher Merryl Roberson and Kingston and Surbiton MP Edward Davey had been working on securing the money together.
Earlier this year the Government announced free hot meals for children aged four to seven in primary schools.
Mrs Roberson said: "We have had over 96 per cent take up of the universal free school meal offer for our infant children because we now have an excellent food preparation area as well as a wide choice of menu.
"Barry the chef regularly discusses the menu with the children. Our next step with the targeted funding is to have all our children eating together in an extended dining space."
Children at Malden Manor also participated in National School Meals Week where the school’s food council visited the Houses of Parliament and dined with politicians including schools minister David Laws.
