A children's hospice has been inundated with donations from supporters after heartless thieves raid their storage unit last month.

Two bicycles worth more than £600 were stolen from Shooting Star Chase's storage location in Weybridge on either November 26 or 27.

After an appeal for information in the Richmond and Twickenham Times and Elmbridge Comet, kind-hearted residents and students offered up an array of gifts to help bridge the shortfall of funds.

Two students visited the Hampton hospice on Thursday, December 18, and donated 20 gift hampers for support children, and Tesco sent goods including a Sony 3D TV, iPads and Beats headphones.

The donations from the supermarket amount to more than three times the total cost of the stolen bicycles and will all be auctioned to raise more vital funds for the charity.

David Burland, chief executive officer at of Shooting Star Chase, said: "We are always overwhelmed by the generosity of our supporters at Christmas, particularly as budgets are often tight over the festive season.

"This year the community have rallied around the charity more than ever to ensure we don’t lose precious funds after the bike theft, and for this we are truly grateful.

"We’d like to say a very special thank you to Tesco, who have bowled us over with their extremely kind donations.

"The funds we will raise from auctioning their fantastic items really will go a long way in helping make every moment count for babies, children and teenagers with life-limiting conditions and their families."
