Police are appealing for witnesses after an alleged assault in Weybridge earlier this week.

A teenage girl was allegedly approached by a man in a wooded area near Brooklands College and Weybridge station at about 4.55pm on Tuesday, December 16.

The teenager told police she was grabbed by a man and thrown to the floor but managed to escape and raise the alarm.

Detective Constable Cally Cleeve said: “The victim was left highly distressed following this incident which may have been witnessed by a number of people as it was a busy time with students leaving the nearby college or walking to the train station.

“If you saw anything before or after the time of the incident in that area which you have not already reported to us we need to hear from you urgently, likewise if you have any other information you think we need to know, call us.”

Sarah Milligan, Elmbridge safer neighbourhood team inspector, said officers are carrying out a thorough investigation and patrols have been increased in the area.

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference P14358875.

  • A man in his 50s was arrested and was released on bail, pending further enquiries, until December 22.
