A swan that crash landed on the roof of a Tesco had firefighters rushing to its aid.

Presumably due to the windy weather, the swan misjudged its landing and plumped for a spot between the roof arches of the East Molesey store, promptly getting wedged.

Firefighters from Esher were called to Hurst Road to assist, but as they pulled up ready to save the day, the swan flew off.

A spokesman from the fire station, who saw the funny side of the story and was happy to report the swan was fine, said: "The resources were in place but weren't required."

The dramatic near rescue took place at about 4pm on Wednesday, December 10.
