A taxi driver was left with severe facial injuries after being assaulted.

The man in his 30s picked up passengers from the Eight Bells Pub, Ewell, at about 9pm on Thursday, December 11, and dropped them off in Woodstock Lane North, Long Ditton, where he was assaulted at about 10.10pm.

He was treated by paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital for treatment.

The offender was a white man, about 5tf 8in, about 50 years old, of medium build, with short dark cropped hair and a stubbly beard. He was wearing a hooded top, blue jeans and a jacket.

Detective Constable Heather Francis said: "I would appeal to anyone who either witnessed the assault or who may have information on the person responsible to share this with us.

"This was a violent assault against a man who was just doing his job and no doubt this horrific experience will stay with him for some time, we need to find the person responsible but we need your help to do this."
