About 100 Tolworth children have been told to to stay home today, due to a faulty fire alarm at their school.

Parents at Knollmead Primary School were texted this morning asking them not to bring their children to school due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

A statement from the school said: "Five first floor classrooms have had to be closed today at Knollmead Primary School due to a defect in the school's fire alarm system.

"About 100 children are affected, but the rest of the school, including our provisions for ASD and hearing impaired remain open.

"Parents have been informed, as have the council, police and Fire Brigade. The school is working with all relevant services to resolve the situation speedily."
