A Cobham charity offering a lifeline to families has launched an appeal to help give vulnerable children a Christmas to remember.
Youngsters from Oasis Children’s Charity launched their annual Christmas appeal by decorating two post boxes at Sainsbury’s Local, Cobham High Street, on Wednesday, November 25.
Until December 9, the festive post boxes will be used to collect donations of Christmas gifts for the vulnerable children cared for by Oasis.
The charity is used by families who face poverty, social isolation and abuse and Oasis work in conjunction with social services to protect and safeguard vulnerable children and families.
The Cobham charity runs its Christmas appeal each year and buys a Christmas food parcel for each of the 250 families it works with.
Caroline Edwards, founder of Oasis, said: “A poll by YouGov discovered that last Christmas, families spent on average £822 on Christmas gifts, food and decorations.
“When you think that many of the families we support each year regularly rely on the Cobham Foodbank to get by, this makes Christmas an impossible and daunting time for them.”
New unwrapped gifts for children up to the age of 18 can be donated at the supermarket or a donation for a food parcel can be made online.
