According to the latest results, three quarters of pupils have been awarded five or more A*- C GCSEs, placing them in the top 10 per cent for the country, according to figures released by exam authority OFQUAL for 2014.

Surrey is now ranked 14 out of 151 authorities – something which has delighted Surrey County council cabinet member for children and learning, Linda Kemeny.

“Despite the huge pressure on places from spiralling demand, once again Surrey schools are setting a high standard and credit must go to headteachers and their teams, to parents and to the hard-working students,” said Ms Kemeny.

“Being ranked among the top performers is a reflection of their dedication and effort but we will continue to work hard to ensure standards in our schools keep on improving.”

The figures are well above the average for England as whole, which returned a 63.2 per cent pass rate at A*- C.

It’s all good news for schools, colleges and students who are being given the best educational opportunities to give them a head start for their future careers.
