Firefighters cut an injured driver out of his lorry after a motorway crash this morning which is still causing long delays.
An articulated lorry crashed into the back of another lorry on the clockwise carriageway of the M25 between Junction 8, at Reigate, and Junction 9, Leatherhead, at about 4.30am.
Just before 9.30am a Highways Agency spokesman warned of two-hour delays and advised motorised to avoid the area. At noon police said all lanes have now reopened.
Crew commander Stuart Puttock, from Leatherhead fire station, said: "One articulated lorry went into the back of another one, blocking off a couple of lanes of the motorway.
"They could not be separated. The metal had mangled itself together."
Mr Puttock said firefighters rescued a shaken middle-aged driver, who seemed to have only minor injuries, from the cab of the lorry at the back.
He said: "We had to cut the door off to get access to him and get him out."
Of the long delays, he said: "It had a huge knock-on effect everywhere."
#M25 jct 8 to 9. One of the HGVs has been recovered. Still only lanes 3/4 open past the scene though
