A pedestrian suffered "life threatening injuries" after being hit by a car last night.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the woman in her 70s was struck by the blue Vauxhall Vectra near the BP garage in Hersham Road, Walton at about 6.35pm.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, sustained life threatening injuries and was taken to St Georges Hospital."

Road closures were set up while emergency services attended the accident. The closures were removed at about 9.30pm.

A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “We sent one ambulance and two paramedic cars to the scene, and they all worked together to treat the pedestrian who was a woman aged approximately 70 years old.”

She was taken as a priority to hospital with head and leg injuries.
