A vigil will be held outside Scotland Yard this evening in memory of Ricky Reel, whose body was pulled from the Thames in Kingston 17 years ago today.

The 20-year-old disappeared during a night out in Kingston on October 15, 1997, shortly after he and his friends were racially abused by a group of white men.

His body was found in the River Thames a week later.

It was revealed earlier this year that Mr Reel’s mother Sukdhev had been spied on by the Metropolitan Police officers as she campaigned for an investigation into her son's death.

Mrs Reel and supporters claim he was murdered, but Kingston police has always insisted there is no evidence to support the theory.

A vigil will be held tonight outside Scotland Yard from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

Speakers will include Mrs Reel and MP John McDonnell.
