A 19-year-old man was raped inside Kingston nightclub Pryzm, it has emerged.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to about the rape, which took place in the male toilets of the Clarence Street venue on Thursday, April 3.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command have only today released details of the attack and an image from the club’s CCTV shows a man police want to speak to in connection with the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Janet Archibald said: “I am asking the man shown in the image to come forward and speak with me, since he may have information that would assist the investigation.

“I also wish to hear from anyone who knows this man’s identity, or who has information relating to the incident at Pryzm nightclub on April 3.”

The nightclub, formerly Oceana, was rebranded last November following a £1m refurbishment.

The revamp was carried out in the shadow of the murder of 20-year old Jamie Sanderson, who was stabbed to death in the club on October 25, 2012.

The murder saw Kingston Council revoke club owner Luminar's licence, before repealing the decision after agreeing a series of licensing conditions.

Levan Greenfield and Brandon Francis are both serving life sentences for Mr Sanderson’s murder.

A spokeswoman from Pryzm said: “Pryzm Kingston has extremely robust procedures in place to ensure the safety of its customers including the use of 120 CCTV cameras.

"The club’s toilet attendants were on duty on April 3 and this matter was not brought to their attention nor was any alleged rape reported to the management team. We will continue to cooperate with the police over this alleged incident.”

The suspect in the attack is believed to be in his early to mid 20s, about 5ft 8in and either Mediterranean or black.

Anyone with information about the rape should call police on 020 8649 0422 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
