A burglar who forced open electronic gates and rammed the front door of a house with his motorbike has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Daryl Gooding, 32, of Masbro Road, London, was arrested on Thursday, August 14, for breaking into a house in Danes Way, Oxshott.

After searching the house Mr Gooding stole two sets of car keys, one for a BMW and one for a Mercedes, before driving off in the black coupe BMW.

The burglary took place just before 9.30pm on Saturday, July 26.

Officers from Surrey Police tracked the stolen BMW to Uxbridge, where the car was found.

A motorbike helmet was found in the boot and forensic examinations revealed DNA on the helmet, gear stick and steering wheel that matched Mr Gooding.

Mr Gooding's home address was then searched and a jacket belonging to the car's rightful owner was found on his bedroom floor.

He pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday, August 28, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment for burglary, ordered to pay £120 and sentenced to four months imprisonment for taking a vehicle without consent, to run concurrently.

Investigating officer PC Katy Darke said: "The sentence handed out to Gooding in court reflects the severity of the offence and reassures people living in our local communities that we do take burglaries seriously and will always carry out a fully and thorough investigation to identify the person responsible."
