A stalwart of the Hersham community and a leading member of the Hersham Village Society, Ann Fairbairn, has died at the age of 75.

Ann and her husband Cyril, of Vaux Crescent, Hersham, had just celebrated 40 years of marriage and had eight children, 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Raised in Hersham Road with four brothers and one sister, Ann joined the Hersham Village Society more than 30 years ago, standing as their candidate in the Hersham South ward more than six times.

Councillor Roy Green, chairman of the Hersham Village Society, said: "Ann was a Hersham girl through and through, her heart was in her community and like all true Hersham people she would have fought with her last breath to protect it and stand up for it."

Mrs Fairbairn died following a short illness, on Monday, August 25.

The funeral will be held at St Peter’s Church, Hersham, on Wednesday, September 10, at 11.30am, and a service at Woking Crematorium for family and close friends at 1.15pm, followed by a wake at Walton Comrades Club at 3pm.
