An organisation on a mission to help people access fruit and vegetables has been awarded a £2,500 grant to continue promoting healthy living.

The CSH Surrey Community Fund has awarded the funds to Kingdom Fruit, a social enterprise that serves Esher, and sells cheap, fresh fruit and vegetables from a pop up shop once a week.

The Lower Green area of Esher is one of Surrey's more deprived, where 20 per cent of children live in poverty.

Kingdom Fruit also provides elderly people who have trouble getting about with fresh produce, and those who are socially isolated or hard to reach.

Jo Pritchard, chairman of the fund, said: "As a health visitor I know of the power of good food in ensuring that people keep healthy and in supporting children to achieve their potential at school."
